Kick Ass and Grow Your Business

I was so happy when this week’s #WOW the inspirational Michelle Mahoney accepted my invitation to be featured as her story really resonates with me and carries many similarities to my own story as I’ve been earning my own money since I was 11 and always looked for opportunities to help others grow and progress. Michelle Amethyst Mahoney helps holistic small business owners who are struggling to find clients and are feeling overwhelmed attract more clients and  make more money so they can serve their bigger purpose in the World and help more people without burning out.

Tell me a little about you, your lifestyle and what you are passionate about? I am passionate about helping holistic small business owners getting their gifts out to the world so they can help others while getting paid really well to do it.

So tell me about your business, what is Kick-Ass Business all about?  Kick-Ass Business News is a resource for small business owners to find the best tips available today all in one place. We recently came out with a new magazine that is totally free to help more people.

What lead you to making the decision of creating your own business? When I was 12 years old I got tired of handing over hundreds and even thousands of dollars to the school, to scouts, and to other organizations after I spent hours and hours selling candy, calendars, and other things for them. I decided to cut out the middle man and go in business for myself.

Has there always been a burning desire inside you to create this or did it your business evolve from your original idea? Ha – well, I don’t sell Googly-Eyed Critters door-to-door like I did back then (when I was 12). My first “legal” business when I was 18 was a multi-level marketing business. By the time I was in my mid-20’s I was a professional pet sitter. Seven years ago I started reading Tarot.

Once I figured out how to become successful at that, I realized that there are Continue reading

Is that G word getting in the way of your goals?

Is that G word getting in the way of your goals?
Where ever your guilt originates from, finding the root cause will help you uncover the reasons behind your self sabotaging methods which will effect every area of your life including reaching your goals.

You see all our memories , thoughts, feelings and emotions get all bundled up together, our conscious mind stores  all these like for like experiences together to save us the hassle of processing them. If you can imagine your brain like a huge storage unit and every time we expereince an emotion, feeling or thought that will be stored as memory in our storage facility.

So Guilt will have its own designated area, lets make it a green area where everything we experience and associate with guilt will trigger all those memories to come to the fore. I always think of my brain activity as loads of little men being called to atttention- ”Come on lads, we need reinforcements, this is a case of severe guilt were dealing with” I’m guilty of using blue to highlight the colour green a moment ago and that would of triggered a response in your brain to acknowledge that. This happens instantaneus so usually you won’t notice unless you have awareness of your thought patterns.

So once the guilt trigger is activated, it could just be over a minor thing, the guilt section of your brain storage unit  gets flooded with all the memories associated with guilt, providing you with more “evidence” and “proof” why you should feel guilty. This happens with every single emotion we feel. First we have a thought then we experience a feeling then the full emotion. For a thought to turn into a feeling we must hold that  same thought for a while, then we begin feeling it . Once we feel it and hold onto that feeling it causes an emotional response in our bodies. think butterflies in your stomach, your face or neck going red,  for some people the colour drains from them, a headache – thes are the physical indicators of an emotional response.

3 clues that guilt is running your life

  1. Every time you find yourself reaching the next level of success a major life experience occurs to stop you progressing e.g illness, pregnancy, broken bones or injury
  2. Major Mummy Guilt – when you are working you feel guilty , when you are not you feel guilty
  3. Whenever you do or get something for yourself you need to justify it to yourself first

Benefits of Guilt

  • Guilt works best to help us grow and mature when our behavior has been offensive or hurtful to others or ourselves.
  • Healthy guilt is telling us we need to do something different in order to repair relationships that are important to us
  • The feeling of guilt is trying to get our attention so that we can learn something from the experience. If we learn from our behavior, we’ll be less likely to do it again in the future.

How to change state from a negative to a more positive emotion
You just need to replace the thought with a slightly better one. If you think of your thoughts on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the worst you can feel) If you are feeling a 10 ( really strong negative emotion, like guilt for no reason) replace it with a feeling of 9 ( still feels bad but not as bad) then carry on replacing the thought until you’re neutral then make yourself a cup of tea and it’ll all be alright.

Where it all started – my journey to my purpose

I’m very excitied to be interviewing today’s WOW (Wednesday’s Outstanding Woman) Happiness Coach Sue Jaques Weston. Sue is my mentor and is the lady responsible  for getting me started in discovering my purpose and through working with her i’ve been able to overcome many of the blocks many of us experience when we’re starting to play bigger. Sue helped me overcome my fear of success and through a simple technique she was able to get straight to the root of what had previously kept rooted in self sabotage every time I began making progress. We’ve worked together now for 3 years , its very rare to find someone who shares your passions yet has their own unique style which compliments mine perfectly.I’ve been so blessed to have such an amazing spirit enter my life and our journey together has only begun.

Tell me a little about you , your lifestyle and what you are passionate about?  I am happily married to Ian and have 2 lovely sons at university and a beautiful daughter  who’s now at senior school. I love my life and I am so passionate about helping people get the life they deserve. I play an active role in my community and facilitate many events which bring everyone together.

So tell me about your business, what is Sue Jaques Life Coaching all about? My business is all about helping people to find direction in their lives. I help them to realize and achieve their goals by making small changes and show them how they can feel more positive by looking at their life in a different way. I use various NLP techniques and hypnotherapy to help my clients make the changes that enable them to move on and get the life they desire.  I see people on a one to one basis and run Life Coaching courses for groups of people.

What lead you to making the decision of creating your own business? I went on a life coaching course at my daughter’s school and it was here that I decided I would like to become a life coach and hypnotherapist. I have been freelance for most of my working life so it made perfect sense to create my own business.

Has there always been a burning desire inside you to create this or did  your business evolve from your original idea? I have always had the desire to help people and make a difference. I also enjoy talking to people and finding out what makes them who they are. Being a life coach really does tick all the boxes for me, I really love my job.

What did/do you find to be the most challenging part of your business? The most challenging part of my job is attracting enough clients to make my business viable. Also a lot of clients wish to see me after work and at weekends when I have limited appointments.

What have you learned about yourself during the process of setting up your business? I have learned that I can deal with difficult situations easily by using the tools I teach my clients to use. I definitely practise what I preach!

What advice would you give someone considering starting their own business? I would advise them to research the field they are setting up in. Charging the right price is really important. If you don’t charge enough people won’t value you and if you are too expensive people won’t come to you. The most important advice I would give is to believe in yourself.

What products and services do you provide ? I provide NLP Life Coaching, Hypnotherapy and TimeLine Therapy

What is the greatest success story for your business? I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say this but 3 years ago a lovely lady called Mary came along to one of my Life Coaching courses. She was a star pupil and continued to attend the course for 6months. I asked her if she would help me run the course. She agreed to this and decided to train as an NLP practitioner. I have watched her grow and flourish. She is now running courses in her own right for Barnet Council and has a huge following on the internet. I am so proud of her and all she has achieved.

And the soon to be published memoir by the same name.
